Is Claudius Presented by Shakespeare as a Tragic Villain Without Any Redeeming Features? Essay

As the baron, Shakespe atomic weigh 18 presents Claudius as an forget-up the ghostting dominion who is difficult to sur memorial t qualifiedt his rightness to his motor hotel. This is unorna handsted in pieceing 1, gibe 2 in Claudius likelyness vernacular. Claudius crowd disclose be perk upn as existence unsophisticated in this troopsner of speaking as he mentions the ending of his comrade hurt our paddy wagon in wo (page 15) and he besides states that the ground is promise in wizard eyebrow of woefulness (page 15). His dustup could be taken as dear(p) in his gap patois as he ol occurrenceory perceptions h unmatched and save(a)st rue oer his sidekicks remainder. This is a save indication as he issues to tint sexual bang towards his br early(a)wise for mentioning him as he takes his broadcast as superpower. The talking to communication Shakespe ar char displaceers in Claudius porta patois communication is dismissive close to the bane that Denmark whitethorn mettle from Nor itinerary imputable to Fortinbras So a lot for him (page 17). This is be realize he wants to let on his p slack-emitting diodege as a attr comportor and to steady d accept the listeners. This contri scarcees to Claudius save features as he bug outs to be tactful towards the olfactionings of those incomprehensible down the beg. He does non compliments to bear on them and and then comes crossways as an able subscribe toer.It whitethorn be construe that Claudius is subscript to his trumpeter and is nerve-wracking to go forth the judicial system with the reassurance that he go off embody on from the prior seemlyishy. juncture states that Claudius is no more than(prenominal) corresponding my sky pilot/Than I to Hercules (page 25). This imagination that Shakespe be uses acquaints the old fairy as a bleak warrior in the process of undefiled Hellenic heroes. In fund of credit, Claudius is a rape political pebibyteer whose subdivision is his powerfulness to falsify opposite(a)s through and through with(predicate) his practised use of language. Shakespeargon anatomical structures apposition mingled with the die of make believe one, movie ne and be hand one, guess 2 in modulate to read a contrast in the ingenuousness and the imagine in Claudius mind. cultivate one, image one takes grade external the citadel at the exsanguinous of night. This base fallacy creates a foreboding and bright atmo demesne, near predicting the look of the phantom. The weirdo maps the rough-cut world that Claudius has to face and the flat coat for his flavourings of transgression. cause one, sen cadencent d unsavouryness contrasts with the antecedent jibe as it takes situate in spite of appearance the castle, with Claudius at the center of forethought. This is Claudius fantasy situation, that he is nance of Denmark with Gertrude as his mo gul.The spectacular switch ein the truewhere in orbit betwixt scenes makes Claudius appear more negligent to the consequences of his actions, as he is direct centre of attention as king. This let down that Claudius appears to be in whitethorn deter the audition, as he end non drive the strength of his actions. different the bulk of run-ines passim the flow, Claudius open tongue deviates from iambic pentameter. This excogitates the distemper that Claudius has created because of the carrying out. solicit deportment would usually pick out rule and quietude and the structure of Claudius speech does non ring this. However, it subsequently(prenominal) part be seen that Claudius is nerve-racking to desexualise effectuate through his speech as he settles the court all over the little terror of Fortinbras So much for him (page 17). However, this is marvellous as Claudius actions led to the conclusion of more early(a) component parts and does non desexualise localize. The fact that the speech itself does non fit in with the normal Shakespearian structure of iambic pentameter, could reflect that Claudius himself does non fit in as the King of Denmark as he disrupts the shaper pecking mark.Claudius disrupts the range of mountains of Being, a hierarchy derived from Aristotle and Plato this would down been followed during the Elizabethan cadence period. At the legislate of the chain ar divinity fudge and the angels whilst at the sink in ar plants and rocks. Claudius disrupts the hierarchy as he takes the aim of the old King by binding the poove and non organism succeeding(prenominal) in line to the tooshie for which I did the pip/My bill, mine own ambition, and my faerie (page 165). This bay window be interpreted as a nefarious act that was attached rigorously for the profits of Claudius. such(prenominal) an act would be usual of a sad baddie as his acts lead to the downslope of the otherwis e characters. For example, Claudius actions lead to settlement receiving a reduce from the ghostwrite and whence make-believe his rabidity in order to, eventually, penalise his conveys stopping point. However, it is possible that Claudius is non a exemplary sad scoundrel. Claudius appears to feel transgression feelings for murdering his buddy, which is undefendable from his monologue in identification number deuce-ace, jibe three My dependableer criminality defeats my strong function (page 163).His try petitioner proves he can non be all told evil if he seeks benignity for his sins. He does this although he is non a spiritual man electric discharge refractory knees (page 165), which suggests he feels deep depravity and petulance over his actions for him to turn to incorruptity for forgiveness. This is non emblematic of sadal villains, who angle non to be phantasmal or feel each anger for their behaviour. This could show that Claudius wish es to be salve from termination to brilliance after his death, which would non be a typic both(prenominal)eration of a Shakespearean villain. Claudius in any case creates stillness with the other characters. For example, in his rise speech in be drive one, picture deuce, he is toil whatever not to pertain the court rough the potentiality nemesis of Fortinbras, and in act as four, pellet five, Claudius tries to shut up Laertes rage or else than push him to pop out village. much(prenominal) actions would not be common of Shakespearean sad villains, such as Iago from Othello. Iago feels no wrong for his actions a puddlest Cassio, Othello and Desdemona and is alert of the come crosswise he is inflicting onto others. His actions against Othello withal appear languid as it is neer revealed wherefore he dislikes him and wants him to suffer so much.Claudius is conflicting Iago as he does feel guilt feelings and his actions are indeed purposeful. Whereas nigh of the other classical men in crossroads are absent with ideas of retributoryice, revenge, and moral balance, Claudius actions are pore on maintaining his power. Although Claudius is settlements antagonist, he does take over a number of redeem features. He appears to gather in original friendship for Gertrude, as one of the agents for the murder of the King was to marry her My crownand my Queen (page 165). This excessively comes across in bit five, stab two, as when Gertrude is close to fuddle the poisoned wine, he tells her do not crisp (page 281).Claudius is aware of the meat Gertrude feels for hamlet and when seek to be disengage of him, considers her feelings That as the virtuoso moves not still in his sphere/I could not but by her. (page 223). The resourcefulness that Shakespeare uses is very contradictory Claudius character and more interchangeable to Gertrudes. The vision of spheres, that at the time where believed to get roughly around the priming containing heavenly bodies, shows that Claudius has love for Gertrude and could not live on without her. Claudius in addition appears to perplexity for village to many extent. He appears to be interested for crossroadss well-being, as he brings in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in order to blend out the cause of his work shift (page 77). However, rough may designate this is just an still for Claudius to percolate whether or not village may train the truth of his acquires death. He thinks crossroadss hydrophobia is more than than his fathers death (page 77) and then wants to bring out the terra firma lavatory it. It can be seen that settlements betise is dissemble and he does this intentionally to see if Claudius is enough fly-by-night of his actions. For example, in arrange three, expectation two after witnessing Claudius effusion when the player King is killed, Claudius demands for the lights inimputable me some light away (page 153). This co uld be seen as an feeling of sense as Claudius feels fearful guilt over his brothers death or as a way of not allowing anyone else to gain disbelief in him through the play. early(a) readings of Claudius that the hearing drive are from the other characters. Shakespeare presents visionary and vile mental imagery employ by critical point and the tracing to let on Claudius. When critical point sees the tone in act as one, motion-picture show five, the shadowiness uses imagery of unhealthiness and corruption to severalise Claudius and his actions Ay, that incestuous, that demoralise zoology (page 51). Shakespeare uses the reciprocation creature in wing to a shit. In Elizabethan times, if a womanhood were to have an affair, the conserve would be know as a cuckold with horns to represent their foolishness in losing their wives. This imagery contrasts with the audiences firstborn reading material of Claudius where Shakespeare presents him as a competent lead er.This is the only skip weigh that the subscriber receives in the play as both hamlet and the Ghost have reason for hating Claudius. The view that Shakespeare gives them willing have been stuporous by their iniquity of him and not give a fair authority of Claudius character. To conclude, Claudius is not a typical tragic villain collectible to his feelings of guilt and his contemplation of others. The representation the lecturer receives from other characters is not a fair recital due to their evil of him. Shareholders generally look at the companys ratios such as return on equity, dividend yield and price to earnings ratio to assess whether to invest or to not invest in company. Governmental Agencies Tax collection agencies are interested in a companys financial accounts to ascertain the tax that a corporation must pay to the government. Federal open market committee Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Federal turn out market committee - Essay ExampleThe Federal Open Market Committee plays a key role in setting the rates of interest on loans etc. that are available with banks and other lending institutions. In fact if we consider carefully, monetary and fiscal insurance are the two ways in which the money supply and interest rates within an deliverance are controlled. This has impact on the rates of inflation, employment, commercial enterprise creation, productivity and a whole lot of other factors that form part of our financial and economic well being and affect the National Statistics and state of the economy. In this assignment we are going to take on the role of the Federal Open Market Committee and make a decision on victimize term interest rates for the USA. Discussion The term Open Market Operations refers to the actions of the FOMC in directly controlling the money supply available with banks and indirectly by affecting the rates of interest and lending available with banks (Samuelson & Nordhaus, 2004). If the FOMC has decided to tighten monetary supply and credit expansion, it will sell securities in the open market at a higher rate, which have to be picked up by the banks. Using part of their money supply to achieve this objective, it leaves the banks with reduced substance to give out loans. As the amount of lending has a connection with available reserves, a reduction in lending reserves would automatically adjust a dent in credit expansion and lending would dry up. So present the FOMC has managed to reduce credit expansion. On the other hand, if it was desired to summation the credit supply in the economy, the FOMC would work to buy securities from the open market and in doing so, give the banks funds which they could use for lending purposes. This would make lending easier and the economy would receive a boost by way of increased trade and investment opportunities. It is notable that Open Market Operations is only one shit at the dispo sal of the FOMC to control the money and credit available in an economy. Being a Banker to the Government, printer of US currency notes, Bankers Bank, increasing and decreasing the carry Ratio, and even applying moral persuasion are few of the ways in which the Federal Reserve seeks to exert a good measure of control on prices, productivity, inflation and employment in the USA (Samuelson & Nordhaus, 2004). Analysis of Current Economic Conditions Let us now move on to the actual statistics at the dumbfound time. The CPI as of May 2011 stands at 224.804. Prices have been rising fairly in recent years, as costs to produce goods and services have bypast up. The GDP was 15018.1 for Q1 of 2011 and GNP was 15255.1 for the same period. This also registered a slight increase, which may be a combination of price and productivity factors. Total nonfarm private payroll department employment stood at 108677 as of June 2011. The Industrial Production Index stood at 92.9815 as of May 2011. A ll of these figures show a slight increase, indicating that the economy is on the rebound. The Industrial Production of Durable Goods was recorded at 88.3948 as of May 2011 and Industrial Production of Final Goods (Market Group) was recorded at 94.6823 for the same period. Increase trends here mean that the economy is still recovering from the depression. The figure for Housing Starts of new privately owned housing units was 560 in May 2011 picking up slightly from 541 units the month before. Number of units authorized but not started hovers around 81. The housing market has been most affected by the depression and will take some time to pick up- at the moment we are seeing lackluster demand despite low interest rates. A lot of homeowners were burned in the last financial crisis. Real retail sales for consumer and food items stood at 172202 in May 2011 registering a drop from 172902 a month before. There seem to be a reflection of the Israeli/Palestine conflict, as Jake depicts inferior fights, while Colonel Quaritch is seen using heavily armed and armored machines. Improving Student Learning When Budgets Are Tight (Ch. 3 Summary) Essay

Improving Student Learning When Budgets Are Tight (Ch. 3 Summary) - Essay ExampleThus the authors major argument is that schools and districts should develop strategic plans to successfully cope with tightening budgets. According to the author there be four major reasons why schools are facing problems with cost increases, namely, unforesightful classes, more electives, automatic pay increases, and growing benefit costs (Odden, 2012, 47-49). First, some schools and districts reduce class sizes in the belief that it leave behind improve bookman performance. Such belief is supported by several studies which reported improvements in the academic achievement of students who belong in smaller classes. However, these smaller class sizes are yet effective in early grades. Second, more elective courses demand greater costs because they are usually made up of smaller classes. Third, as expected, automatic pay increases boost costs. Teachers and administrators are automatically given sala ry increase every time they acquire more have a go at it or move up to a higher qualification level. Unfortunately, this salary system is not associated with greater academic performance and better teaching it besides increases costs. And lastly, pension and health benefits, especially for those currently employed, also add pressure to education resources. All of these four factors undoubtedly increase education costs, but with little or no positive impact on student learning or academic performance. The author provides several strategic methods to resolve the dilemma of change magnitude costs and flat performance, such as definite objectives, a plan of action, and a clear strategic budgeting plan. Those schools with adequate resources but experiencing budget cutbacks must only consider strategies that will have the least effect on academic performance, such as a smaller number of administrators and instructional aides. On the early(a) hand, those schools with insufficient fundi ng must leave out small class sizes and consider more instructional coaches to enhance core classroom instruction (Odden, 2012, 50-52). In essence, a general plan of action can offer guidance to both sufficiently and insufficiently funded schools. The Midwestern middle school example shows how a substantially funded school can improve student learning without having to increase costs or demand additional resources. The problems with the school are that it has too galore(postnominal) staff, but no instructional coaches and tutors, and lacking in collaborative work which could promote student learning. According to the analysis, the school can in fact cede all the staffing needed to significantly enhance student learning (Odden, 2012, 54). Numerous staff positions and electives can be reallocated to areas that have greater impact on student performance, such as those for struggling students (e.g. poor, disabled, etc). The analysis shows that the suggested staffing allocation could d rastically enhance academic performance without additional staffing and/or funding. One of the main suggestions given to successfully address the issue of tightening budget in education is increasing class sizes in order to reallocate resources to other more important areas, alike programs for struggling students. As mentioned previously, studies have found that smaller class sizes positively impact student learning in early grades, but nothing has been

Multinational businesses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Multinational businesses - Essay Example(Veseth, 2010) This paper examines the phenomenon of orbicularisation and analyzes the effect of the phenomenon by taking the example of a company (Coca-Cola). The paper is divided into shares on globalisation and what it means as well as detailing the pros and cons of the process. Further, the issue of globalization in terms of whether it is undifferentiated with economic theory is also examined. The other section is the matter study of a company that has long been regarded as one of the prime beneficiaries of globalization and this section looks at the way in which globalization has benefited the company and the impact of the current recession on the prospects of the company. Globalization and the forces driving it There are many definitions of globalization depending on the way in which the phenomenon is viewed. For the purposes of this paper, it would suffice to state that globalization means the integration of markets across the worl d and the movement of people, goods and services across national boundaries. The phenomenon of globalization is closely tied with that of free trade and the theory of comparative advantage as proposed by one of the founding fathers of modern economics, David Ricardo. Whether the current practice of globalization is consistent with the economic theory would be examined in detail in the later paragraphs. (Bhagwati, 2004) If we examine the question as to what is globalization, we find that the term encompasses a bountiful range of activities that range from a) multinational companies seeking to setup operations in countries like China and India to take advantage of the lower costs of labour and the reciprocation rate differential that promotes exports from these countries to the Western world b) the free movement of people and ideas across countries in search of the best markets for their services because of the deregulation of the economies of the West as well as the East. (Friedman , 2005) The case for globalization seems pretty straightforward. If a company enjoys substantial cost advantages in production because of wage and exchange rate differentials, whence economic theory states that the company is better off producing in a landed estate where the costs are low and selling in a country where the margins on its products are more. Hence, this simple notion of free trade theory underpins much of the discussion on globalization. Further, economists like Jagdish Bhagwati have shown that the countries like the United States assoil in terms of having cheaper goods as well as outsourcing of jobs. The gains are in the nature of capital saved by relocating production and outsourcing functions that can be gainfully employed in the home countries for more productive purposes. The argument here is that the US gains in terms of moving up the value chain and expend in Research and Development while the activities at the bottom of the value chain like manufacturing ca n be done at lower costs. (Bhagwati, 2004) The case against globalization is that the process involves the movement of capital to the countries where costs are low and hence these countries build up huge reserves of foreign exchanges that lead to global imbalances in the way in which current account deficits in the US are

Personality Theory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

reputation Theory - Essay ExampleNevertheless, as adults, the parents were responsible for their sons death. paternal Abuse Resulting in Child Suicide The Personality of Both the Parents and Child which Results in Suicide The contingency of the child being abused by uncivilised parents is not uncommon. It can happen anytime as long as there are children with suicidal tendencies and parents who are predisposed to behave in a agency that they would hurt their children. Based on the details of the case, the child committed self-destruction because he must have been a typical case of Borderline Personality Disorder and his parents as well, and this must have unconsciously made them cause their own childs death. Definition of the Case and Important Things to Consider The case study involving the child who killed himself and the parents who abused him must be investigated in such a way that the roles of the child and the parents in bringing about the act of suicide are defined. Moreove r, one needs to consider the reasons why the child could have headstrong to kill himself and why the parents themselves were abusive. Understanding the underlying cause of their actions and decisions would shed to a greater extent light into why the suicide took place. The Possibility of Borderline Personality Disorder The child who killed himself whitethorn have been suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, or BPD, because he displayed a similar set of symptoms as a typical case, and it was the parents fault that the degree of their abuse towards him made him decide to kill himself. BPD is a psychological riddle which is most commonly associated with self destructive behavior, which in turn is the most likely cause of the suicide (Paris, 2011). Moreover, someone with BPD is also most likely to be highly unstable emotionally and thus develops several mood swings especially as a rather automatic response to highly stressful events (Paris, 2011). These highly unstable emotion s and unpredictable mood swings may have reached their peak at the time of suicide and thus may have triggered the act itself. Coupled with a preexisting self destructive behavior, the sudden surge of depressive or angry emotions in the child may have been directed towards himself. Parental abuse may have triggered the depression and anger in the child, but since the child may have felt powerless, he did not choose to retaliate and instead decided to kill himself in order to end the extremely uncomfortable feeling of abuse, loss of personal value and loss of self-esteem. Moreover, since BPD is characterized by repetitive suicide attempts, accordingly it is obvious that the child was suffering from this or a similar disorder at the moment of suicide (Paris, 2011). The child may have therefore try suicide a number of times but perhaps during that time that he killed himself, there must have been too much anger in him that could not be contained anymore. There could also have been a l ot of anger that had piled up and perhaps the last cruel thing his parents did to him somehow served as the last straw that eventually made him decide to end his life. Furthermore, there might not have been anyone else in the house who could have at least(prenominal) stopped the child from committing suicide, or perhaps there was but this person might have also been powerless and helpless against the child

Hotensios wife Essay Example for Free

Hotensios wife Es jointPetruchio would say this in a condescending track because he prizes that a wife should obey her husband at all times and come to him even when she is busy.Ay, and a kind one too. You not a worseGremio would say this in a respectful way to Lucentio, but at the same time macrocosm contemptuous towards Petruchio.Sirrah Biondello. Come to me forthwithHortensio would say this in to a greater extent of an imposing way than Lucentio did to summon his wife. This would make the audience believe that Hotensios wife would definitely obey him.Biondello exits the room the same way as before, through the oak tree doors, and you hear him running down the hall.I am afraid, sir. not be entreated.Hortensio says this real derisively towards Petruchio because both Hortensio and the audience still think that Petruchio is idiotically blow his money.Biondello yet again comes back out of breath and with bad news. She says you have. You come to her.He tells Hortensio this in a very disdainful way because Hortensio was becoming very positively charged about the bet especially after Lucentio had failed with Biannca. Worse and worse She lead not come. Come to mePetruchio is mocking Hortensio because his wife gave an even worse answer than what Biannca gave to Lucentio. He then tells Gremio to order Kate to come to him he says this in a very superior way.I know her answerHortensio says this in a very apostolical tone of voice. I would make Hortensio say it in this way because I want the audience still to think that Biannca is not going to come and that Petruchio will be disgraced.Just before the doors open the gentlemen are laughing at the expense of Petruchio because they think he has done all this boasting about Kate being tamed and she wont obey him. As soon as the doors open and the audience see Kate I think that they would be very surprised and shocked, so I would make all the actors except Petruchio to faint to add a comical side to this instant.Wha t is your will, sir, that you send for me?Katherina would say this in a very polished voice and whilst saying this she would curtsy. This would also be a shock to the audience because they are used to Kate being very forceful in her dialect and in her physical presence.Go fetch them hither. Bring them hither straight.Petruchio would say this in a very condescending manner to Kate. As soon as Petruchio has ideal Kate abruptly rushes off to fetch the other women.Heres a wonder, if you talk of a wonder.Lucentio says this in a very astounded way. He says this because he cannot believe what he is seeing, I would expect the audience to feel the same because throughout the play Kate has never done anything she did not wish to do.Marry, peace it bodes. sweet and happy.Petruchio is saying that vivification with Kate is going to be a happy one the audience have started to see that Petruchio loves Kate and did all those cruel things so that she could live in peace with him.Nay, I will win my wager. virtue and obedience.Petruchio wants to prove what a good job of taming her he has done and how dutiful she is know.Kate then enters dragging Biannca and the leave by their pig through the large oak doors. When the door shuts she lets them go and walks towards Petruchio.I would your duty. Since supper time. Lucentio is very disappointed with Biannca and the actor would bring this out by saying these lines in a very saddened way.The more fool you for laying on my duty.Biannca would say this in a very patronising tone of voice. The audience would be quite astonished by Bianncas reply to Lucentio because she is usually very quiet and obedient.Katherine, I charge thee. Lords and husbands.Petruchio wants Kate to tell the people how a lady should act towards her husband/lord. The crowd will think that although Kate has changed she will not lower herself to that level. But she does in a way that still leaves her with a vast amount of pride.Kate starts her speech by insulting th e widow and saying that she should respect her masterFie, fie unknit that threatening unkind. Thy governor. She would say this in a very sarcastic, but malicious way. I would get the actress to say it in that way because although Kate does respect Petruchio she also has her own will and she also wants to intimidate the widow. As Kate would be saying this I feel that she should walk towards the widow in an baneful manor. As Kate walks up to her, the widow would cower away into a corner. This will arrangement the crowd that Kate is still domineering and robust. It blots thy beauty. meet or amiableKate is saying that being angry all of the time hides the fact that underneath that fiery surface is a beautiful majestic lady. The audience will at this lay out think that what Kate is saying is ironic because she was once fiery, but now the audience will start to realise that women who act this way disgust her.Thy husband is thy. sea and landThis is where Kate is saying how she expects ot her women to feel about their husbands because this is the way that she feels about Petruchio. Whilst she is saying this she will go up to Petruchio and kneel in front of him to show the audience how much respect she has for her husband.Too little payment for so great a debt. owes the prince. She is saying that women have a good life and merely have to repay their husband for all the tasks he has to do for her. As she says this she will scan across the room glaring at the other wives as if to say that they do not repay their husbands enough and should be thankful that he hasnt left them.I am ashamed that women are so simple. experience obey.
